Thread-topic: S+ Tech Support (Was: [S] (or R) High level R graphics functions?)
Hello all

While our Tech Support manager, Sean Balch, has already followed up with
Prof. Hunsicker privately to help out, I also wanted to post a general
response.

The S+ support team is now part of a much larger support organization.
As part of the post-acquisition integration, we migrated the team to
TIBCO's Siebel support system. As many of you may be aware, it works a
bit differently than the old email based system at Insightful.

This move allows us to take advantage of the resources of a larger
organization and will (once we iron out the kinks) offer a better
quality of support to our customers. One piece that has been
advantageous for us, but has caused a little customer frustration, is
the inclusion of a tier-I support team in the process -- the Technical
Assistance Center. They are the ones triaging new service requests, and
taking the support phone calls. At this point, they currently provide
very limited S+ technical support and are mostly focused on verifying
that customers are current on their product maintenance.

This is in absolutely no way meant to reduce access to the support team.
We have a very knowledgeable and mature S+ support team, and TAC frees
up the their time to focus on providing quality technical support and
eliminates the requirement for them to track down maintenance contracts,
create accounts, identify new users, etc.

If you would like to speak directly with the S+ team, you can submit a
service request through the TIBCO Support Web requesting a call back.
The S+ team will give you a call as soon as practicable. Please make a
note if your issue is urgent and they will respond accordingly.

Please keep us informed of your experiences with the new system and the
support team. Our customers are very important to us, and we enjoy
working with you all.

Subject: [S] (or R) High level R graphics functions?

Good afternoon, folks.

It seems that TIBCO is trying to reduce access to their help line, now
that they have taken over Insightful and control of S-PLUS. Access to
the help desk was one of the two main reasons that I had continued to
use S-PLUS rather than switching over to R. The other main reason was
that I found the S graphics functions - especially the Editable Graphics
- easier to use than the lower level R graphics functions. Now I am
reassessing whether to make the switch.

To this end, are there available any packages of higher level graphics
functions - such for example as plotting x vs. y with error bars -
available for use within the R environment? In general, one would want
functions to do most of the specific types of plot now supported within
S-PLUS. I have downloaded R itself and some of the available packages,
but I haven't located any packages specifically devoted to high level
graphics.

As always, thanks in advance to anyone that can help me with the above.
