Dr. Stanley A. Sawyer is a Professor in the Department of Mathematics at Washington University with a joint appointment in the Division of Biostatistics in the School of Medicine. He earned his Ph.D. from the California Institute of Technology in 1964 and has held academic appointments at Purdue University, Yeshiva University, Brown University, and New York University. Dr. Sawyer joined the faculty of the Washington University Department of Mathematics as a Professor in 1984. He has held joint appointments in the Division of Biostatistics and in the Department of Genetics since 1985.

Professor Sawyer's research interests include the fields of probability and statistics and genetics. He has received research grants from the National Institutes of Health and the National Science Foundation. He has served on the editorial boards of several journals and on review panels for the NSF and NIH (NIGMS).
