KAREN SCHWANDER Karen Schwander is a Senior Statistical Data Analyst. She received her Bachelors Degree in Mathematics from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, and has finished her Masters Degree coursework in Statistics and Political Science. Ms. Schwander joined the Division in March of 1999 as a Statistical Data Analyst working on the HyperGEN Program. Since that time, she has become the main analyst for the Family Blood Pressure Program (FBPP), a large multi-center genetics study of blood pressure. The goal of the FBPP is to locate and characterize the genes that contribute to high blood pressure. Ms. Schwander's work primarily focuses on data management, quality control, and data analysis. In her work with FBPP, she has experience combining recalcitrant data from numerous studies within the program, and creating reports summarizing the pooled data. She has designed and produced study management reports that summarize the progress of an ongoing study and the current status of data acquisition. In addition to this, she has worked on various genetic analysis, including a genome wide linkage scan for math and grip tests effects on blood pressure, and sample selection and analysis for the Chromosome 5 beta-2 adrenergic receptor. |
