Dr. William Shannon is an Assistant Professor of Biostatistics in Medicine in the Division of General Medical Sciences with a joint appointment in the Division of Biostatistics. He earned a Ph.D. in Biostatistics from the University of Pittsburgh and joined the faculty at Washington University School of Medicine in 1995.

Currently Dr. Shannon is the Co-Director of the Siteman Cancer Center's Multiplexed Gene Analysis Core and Director of the Department of Medicine Biostatistics Consulting Center at Washington University School of Medicine, which provides general biostatistical consultation for design of studies, sample size calculations, data management planning, statistical analyses, grant and manuscript preparation and critical review, and statistical computing.

Dr. Shannon's research interests include classification and clustering of biomedical data, large database analyses, data mining, and statistical computing. Recent research activities have been focused on developing new classification and computational methods for the analysis of gene chip data and multiple aligned protein sequence data. His consulting activities involve analyzing biomedical research data for grants and manuscripts to support faculty projects throughout the University.
