Gang Shi joined the Division of Biostatistics in August 2006 as a Post Doctoral Research Associate. In July, 2007, he was promoted to a Research Instructor. He received his Bachelor (1996) and Master (1999) degrees in Engineering specializing in pattern recognition and intelligence system from Xi’an Jiaotong University, and D.Sc. (2006) in Electrical Engineering from Washington University with training in statistical signal processing. He serves on the Wubios Advisory Committee of the Division and teaches Statistics Primer for the Genetic Epidemiology Master of Science program.

Dr. Shi’s research interests include methodological development, study design, and data analysis for complex trait dissection by using tools from statistical genetics, bioinformatics, and system biology. His research interests and activities include network and dynamic modeling of biological systems, time course data analysis, phenotype innovation via dynamic modeling, etc. He has been working on the modeling of covariate modulation of gene-trait linkage and association. He generalized variance component model to incorporate gene-age interaction into the linkage analysis of quantitative trait, and implemented this methodology as an analysis package QTLtrends.
