|
The GenNet Network consists of two main study centers (Tecumseh, MI and Maywood, IL) that specialize in different ethnic groups. GenNet has recruited and characterized over 2,000 pre-hypertensive and African American, Hispanic American and White hypertensive individuals to date. Applying statistical techniques, the investigators have begun to narrow the search for genes affecting blood pressure and are currently focusing on a promising region on Chromosome 1. Further examination of markers and candidate genes in this region is now underway, and an important novel approach that utilizes findings from inbred hypertensive rat strains should contribute importantly to narrowing the search for genes of relevance to hypertension. GenNet has also characterized several phenotypes of particular relevance to the genetics of hypertension, including biochemical assessments of the renin-angiotensin system, red blood cell sodium-lithium countertransport activity, echocardiographic parameters and psychological characteristics. Finally, genotypes obtained from GenNet studies are providing novel insights into the genomic structure of candidate genes for hypertension. You can request GenNet Data by completing one Data Sharing Agreement. For GenNet Materials, you must complete a separate Biological Materials Transfer Agreement for each center from which you want Materials.
