Given the need for additional research related to cardiovascular health and risk factors associated with other chronic diseases specific to Latino subgroups, it is crucial to train and develop future scientists to understand and reverse the negative health disparities experienced by Latino communities. This program will bridge together accomplished and aspiring researchers in Latino health research, as related to cardiovascular disease (CVD) and other conditions associated with CVD risk factors, at an initial two-week Summer Institute in San Diego, California. Additional mentoring will be provided through ongoing communication with an assigned mentor, a mid-year visit to each mentee’s research setting, and a second Summer Institute. Training will focus around research methods and design, as well as scientific and grant writing.
