We went ashore and spent a little time tramping around the Acadia National Forest on Mount Desert Island.

We sailed up Eggemoggin Reach, one of the main passages between Jericho Bay and Penobscot Bay. There is a high bridge that spans the reach between the mainland and Little Deer Isle. The trouble is that the top of the Mary Day's masts stand at about 100 feet above the water while the bridge clears the water by about about 85 feet. So the Mary Day's topmasts had to be lowered...

I believe that Barry had planned to sail around Cape Rosier to the north and into Holbrook Harbor. However, it being late in the day and finding hardly any wind, Barry instead headed the Mary Day about and sailed into Buck Harbor.
